Neither a real person or a real scene but it is the basis for my new paintings which are, in themselves, abstract. The imagery folds in and in on itself until only the essence of the original idea exists.
Inspired by the Greek: Persephone and Ate.
Images, once again, carry no record of reality. Now back in the realm of interpretation and abstraction…as all images were before photography. What I see is a constant stream of visual images that I am told to interpret as true photographic records of the real world. Truth, reality, evidence…though they are none of those things anymore. The photographic image is a product of my generation, my time in history. A fleeting episode of proof, never to return. ‘The photograph as legal proof’ is disappearing into the pages of history.
